Simon Caldrich, a high school aged boy lives with his mother Catherine in a suburban town. His mother is dating a computer engineer involved is some very advanced military simulation systems. While he is staying over Simon's gaming system gets crossed with the military system and a lightning strike causes a character from the game Katsuo, the hero and martial arts expert to come to life in their house. Simon becomes friends with him, and Katsuo instructs him in martial arts, as well as helps him deal with bullies that have been taunting him. Simon has been very angry and resentful about his father's passing, but he gradually warms to his Mom's new boyfriend, Jack, and they start doing some things together including visiting his high tech labs where Simon witness some amazing things in a top secret area. Katsuo gets the idea Jack is Simon's enemy, and tries to kill him, but luckily Simon is able to talk him out of it. Simon makes a friend at school, Dora, a nice girl that tries to help him with some of his problems. Simon tries to start doing better at school and work on his future. Some bullies try to beat up Simon, but Katsuo foils their plans, beating them up while making it look like Simon was the one that did it. They leave him along after that. Unfortunately the game that released Katsuo into the world, has also released all the villains from the game, Katsuo's enemies. They begin to wreak havoc on the city, and Simon and Jack go back to the headquarters to try to shut off the machine that is controlling it. They manage to triumph and the characters all disappear after losing their powers. A few months later, Simon is at a Chinese restaurant in town, when he sees a cook that look exactly like Katsuo! The man speaks no English, and his co-workers laugh at Simon's questions. It appears they will become friends.
